Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversite company technical strategic road map and product development objectives
  • Develop technical management team with plant management
  • Participates in product quality root cause analysis (analysis, yield improvements, defect and variation reduction, and validations)
  • Responsible for APA Certification Program
  • Advocate for SPC through use of SPC tools for product and process optimization while coaching staff to do the same
  • Oversees the utilization of the Plywood LP and the supporting data acquisition into the LP and the accuracy of that data
  • Participates in customer site visits and troubleshooting product quality issues with customers
  • Liaison with APA
  • Single point of contact for Plywood quality claims
  • Train, coach and act as mentor to plant Quality Managers
  • Coordinate project activities with operations, IT and engineering teams
  • Work with quality assurance/control teams on projects and guide development of continuous improvement systems in safety, quality, yield, value, cost and productivity performance
  • Ensure the standardization of process control and quality control platforms and performance metrics across the division
  • Coordinate the implementation of process optimization across the division
  • Ensure process control applications, process optimization, process information management systems and databases
  • Must be a very capable leader with the ability to influence the organization from the plant floor to the top floor
  • Work closely with engineering team members on project concept, development and implementation
  • Provide support to engineers on schedule, scope, budget, design, planning, and coordination of projects
  • Coordinate with corporate and plant personnel to optimize the use of resources and equipment
  • Work closely with sales to develop new products
  • Evaluate new products, processes, and technologies
  • Participate in industry associations, such as APA
  • Monitor, research, understand implications to the business and recommend actions on regulatory legislation, standards and issues
  • Monitor and understand implications of industry activity including legal actions against industry or industry activities
  • Work with sustainability specialist to understand and take action on various environmental/green standards that may affect products

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Wood Sciences, Chemistry or Engineering
  • Other academic backgrounds acceptable with five (5) or more years of related work experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in process engineering, quality management, continuous improvement, industrial engineering or industrial management
  • Ability to build teams, assess and develop skills of team members
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Demonstrate problem solving techniques and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to lead teams and facilitate meetings
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, statistical quality engineering, inspection, auditing, calibration, data analysis techniques, and quality cost principles
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule and project requirements
  • Professional level competency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate competency in statistical process control (SPC)
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule and project requirements
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
  • Ability to effectively implement change
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
  • Proven leader and results driven

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in wood products manufacturing
  • Knowledge of plywood constructions and specifications
