Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that health, safety and environmental regulations and company practices are consistently followed
  • Increase and continue to grow profitability of the business unit while maintaining service level
  • Provide excellent customer service to meet transportation and logistical needs for internal and external customers while adhering to policies put in place by management
  • Responsible for putting an operating plan in place to get 100% utilization of equipment
  • Analyze maintenance costs and provide recommendations on fleet utilization and replacement
  • Track fleet usage and maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory & maintenance records for fleet
  • Manage team of drivers along with part time (or temporary) drivers to maximize equipment
  • Identify all employee training requirements and ensure successful completion
  • Manages dispatch and operations staff
  • Participate in the recruitment of staff to include maintenance personnel
  • Negotiate service agreements to ensure cost efficiencies
  • Complete performance reviews of staff and jointly determine areas of development and training
  • Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the current fleet of over the road equipment
  • Develop freight business outside of company to increase profitability
  • Prepare and implement the annual operating plan to maximize profitability of the terminal
  • Develop standards for current and future hauling lanes to establish benchmark times for drivers to complete haul
  • Work with supervisor/dispatcher to select new equipment that is best suited for operational growth
  • Work with plant shipping departments to establish shipping guidelines and expectations
  • Responsible for all truck transfer of material between plants to include both finished products and veneer
  • Manage all resin moved by tank or bladder bags to ensure the plants supply is maintained at an operational level
  • Prepare management reporting as required

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in the trucking industry
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in a fleet management role
  • Experience with off-road heavy equipment
  • Proven flatbed dispatch or logistics experience
  • Experience with union drivers and union contract negotiation
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience leading and directing the work of others
  • Knowledge and application of Department of Transportation regulations
  • Basic math aptitude and the ability to establish and evaluate key performance indicators (KPI's)
  • Computer literate with experience using MS Office and fleet management systems
  • Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply the latest technologies and best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet production schedule/project requirements
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to resolve problems and follow through with all concerned parties
