Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of projects from development through final startup at any company location
  • Responsible for design of equipment, improvements to processes, and machinery
  • Performs mechanical equipment design, project development, and project execution
  • Provides schedule, scope, budget, design engineering, planning, coordination, and monitoring of projects
  • Track and provide variance analysis to the original approved project scope
  • Perform detailed mechanical design of new equipment into existing operations, and detailed mechanical design of equipment modifications
  • Resolve a variety of complex problems (i.e. conflicting design requirements, suitability of materials and equipment, construction costs vs. project budget)
  • Plans and coordinates crew and equipment resources to ensure installations are within the timeline, and budget
  • Maintains ongoing communication with local and state permit and regulatory agencies and contractors to protect the company's interest and coordinate construction activities
  • Responds to a variety of inquiries and/or concerns from company personnel
  • Reviews and approves construction drawings
  • Coordinates with office and field personnel to optimize the use of resources
  • Develops new construction techniques and procedures
  • Evaluates new equipment
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply the latest technologies
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet production schedule/project requirements
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to resolve problems and follow through with all concerned parties
  • Ability to work with the engineering team, and operations team members on project development and design
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude within expectations
  • Travel 30-50% of the time, to all company locations in U.S. and Canada

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the mechanical engineering fields
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Industrial mill experience
  • Prior experience leading and directing the work of others
  • Knowledge and application of Construction Standards, OSHA Regulations and Building Codes
  • Prior experience with planning, scheduling and executing projects
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Microsoft office products
  • Must maintain discretion and sensitivity to confidential company matters
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy 
  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be proactive and have initiative
  • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
  • Effective leadership skills

  • Valid U.S. passport or willing and able to obtain a valid U.S. passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • P.E. license
  • Wood products experience
  • Adept with Microsoft project
  • Familiar with building codes
  • Familiar with environmental regulatory requirements
